The Contemporary Foundation
Elizabeth Smith, Joel Wachs and Christy MacLear In Conversation
Executive Director of the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation Elizabeth Smith, President of the Warhol Foundation Joel Wachs and Executive Director of the Rauschenberg Foundation Christy MacLear join together to discuss each of their respective foundations’ initiatives within their contemporary practice in order to increase public engagement. The talk will focus on various tactics used by each foundation — bestowing grants to other institutions and artists, legacy programs and holding talks throughout the year to educate the public on various cultural concerns.

Moderated by Founder of “Contemporary Art Daily” Forrest Nash, this conversation will include Marilyn and Larry Fields Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago Naomi Beckwith; Independent Curator and Writer Guillaume Désanges; and Curator of Exhibitions, Reunion des Musées Nationaux Matthieu Poirier discussing a unique curatorial and cultural exchange between Chicago and France happening over the next year, which will culminate with a Special Exhibition at EXPO CHICAGO 2015.

Bad at Sports will speak with Owner of James Cohan Gallery and “Art21” Board member James Cohan and “Art in the Twenty-First Century,” Season 7 artist Arlene Shechet.
Providing unique access to some of the most compelling artists of our time, the new season of “ART21”—premiering October 2014—features a dozen artists from the United States, Europe and Latin America, and transports viewers to artistic projects across the country and around the world.
Arlene Shechet is a New York-based artist who has received broad recognition for her corporeal and suggestive ceramic work. She has exhibited extensively in the United States and abroad, most recently in solo exhibitions at the RISD Museum, RI, and Weatherspoon Art Museum. Her work will be the subject of a 20-year survey show opening in June 2015 at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, with an accompanying book co-published by DelMonico/ Prestel.
