HANS ULRICH OBRIST: CREATIVE CHICAGO — AN INTERVIEW MARATHON
Saturday, September 29, 2018
The Chicago Humanities Festival in partnership with EXPO CHICAGO and the Terra Foundation for American Art will present Creative Chicago: An Interview Marathon during the 2018 exposition at Navy Pier. The marathon will feature Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries in London, and one of the world's leading curators, critics, and art historians.
The four-hour interview marathon will be presented in Navy Pier’s historic Aon Grand Ballroom on Saturday, September 29, as part of the Terra Foundation for American Art's year-long initiative Art Design Chicago.
Obrist’s first interview marathon took place in 2005 in Stuttgart (Germany), and was a 24-hour conversational exploration of art and ideas. The marathons are a part of his life-long Interview Project, for which he has logged thousands of hours in discussion with some of the leading thinkers of our time. Through extended conversations, Obrist examines notions of art and creativity, painting a verbal portrait of our ever-changing cultural moment. Inspired by the legacy and in the spirit of of the great American oral historian and iconic Chicagoan Studs Terkel, Obrist's interview marathons bring together the perspectives of figures both prominent and uncelebrated, which has become a central part of his practice ever since.
Obrist’s first interview marathon in the United States, Creative Chicago will capture and chronicle individuals who have helped to define the city’s creative landscape, as well as those who are shaping it in the twenty-first century.
