Building on a celebrated history of artists producing images for the first global contemporary art fair in North and South America, EXPO CHICAGO revives a celebrated tradition of producing an artist-designed, limited-edition print for sale by Nick Cave. The images for the 2019 EXPO CHICAGO limited-edition print are designed by Facility, a Chicago-based creative studio and nonprofit initiative founded by Nick Cave and Bob Faust, and are produced by Landfall Press—the original publisher of the art fair posters from the 1980s and 90s. Drawing upon motifs found in Cave’s early portfolio, these collectible pieces serve as mementos to the city of Chicago. “The print is very much tied to my work,” Cave shares. “It’s looking at one particular image and layering color on top of color... creating a three-dimensional, vast garden.”

Proceeds from the sale of the print goes to the Facility Foundation – providing scholarships and opportunities for emerging artists, fosters collaborations with like-minded established artists, and partners with outside organizations and institutions to galvanize their outreach programming; The Magnificent Mile® Association – a private, non-profit membership organization with a mission of preserving, promoting, and enhancing the City of Chicago’s North Michigan Avenue business district for the benefit of its members citizens and visitors, and EXPO CHICAGO’s – Curatorial Initiatives, which seeks to promote the development of curators and foster the international dialogue between artists and institutions in Chicago and the greater Midwest.
